Remember Who He IS. Remember Who You Are.

“As he was approaching the border of Egypt, Abram said to his wife Sarai ‘Look, you are a very beautiful woman. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘this is his wife, let’s kill him; so we can have her.’ So please tell the you are my sister then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.” [Gen. 12:10-14 (NLT)]

This was back when Abraham and Sarah (at that time Abram and Sarai) were forced down into Egypt because of the severe famines in Canaan. After Abraham and Sarah arrived as “brother and sister”, the Pharaoh took Sarah to be his wife and gave Abram many gifts.

But on that same night, God cursed Pharaoh and his kingdom, he learned the truth about Abraham and Sarah, and they were both put out of Egypt.

Abraham lied about his relationship with Sarah for two reasons. One, to make sure his life was safe. Did he really have to lie? God had already told Abraham “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt...” [Gen. 12:3 (NLT)]

Safety is also a reason we lie about, or DENY, our relationship with God. Now if Abraham had just remembered what God had promised him, he would have no reason to fear. Nowhere in God’s promise to Abraham did it say, “Assuming you don’t get killed by Pharaoh.”

You are assured safety too, Christians, from at least several places in scripture! One of them (and I like this one) would be, “But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t be afraid of their threats.” [1 Pet. 3:14 (NLT)]

The other reason Abraham lied about his relationship with Sarah was “They will treat me well because of their interest in you.” So Abraham expected to make friends did he?

People pleasing is another reason we DENY our relationship with God.

I DESPISE the very idea of SERVING PEOPLE BEFORE GOD. Much to my chagrin, I AM ALSO GUILTLY OF IT. We all want people to like us. We all want to be “cool”. BEING POPULAR IS NOT A SIN. But when we ENSLAVE OURSELVES to it, put it BEFORE GOD, then it becomes one. You should never live a lie, for any reason, because YOU ARE BETTER THAN THAT.

Remember that being “cool” in itself has no reward other than that. If you are cool and in Christ, God bless you! But if you are cool and have to LIVE IN SIN to stay that way, IT’S NOT WORTH IT.

God is your safety. He is your provider. Never be afraid to say it.

May the Lord’s guidance be with you all,
