God Vision

“Some time later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, ‘Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you and your reward will be great.” [Gen. 15:1 (NLT)]

Isn’t it wonderful how God provides us with unfailing love and protection? How he comes right down to us and tells us not to fear. This is a perfect illustration of why he is such a loving God! But he shows something even greater here, for God isn’t just saying this to Abraham (at that time Abram), God is COMFORTING Abraham, for he knows that he is worried.

“But Abraham didn’t say he was worried.” Not yet. But that’s the beauty of it! God is ALREADY telling Abraham it will be ok, even before Abraham states the problem.

“ But Abraham replied, ‘ O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth.” [Gen 15:2 (NLT)]

So there is the problem! You see, just because God understood doesn’t mean Abraham did, Abraham didn’t see how God could bless him with “descendants as numerous as the dust on the earth”, but Abraham didn’t have God’s eyes.

“ Then the Lord said to him, ‘No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.’ Then the Lord took Abraham outside and said to him, ‘Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” [Gen. 15:4-5 (NLT)]

This can change the way we think of God. God first CAME TO Abraham, then he COMFORTED Abraham, and when Abraham told the Lord of his problems, the Lord did not insult or rebuke him for saying what he already knew. Instead God REASSURED HIM that he would follow through. God had a great plan for Abraham, and God still took the time to reassure him in his doubt.

Christians, GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING about you. He knows your worries, your fears, your desires, everything! And when you have no hope that life will turn out good for you, REMEMBER GOD IS YOUR HOPE. He is NEVER too busy to hear the cry of the broken, the hopeless, the righteous, the evil. NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE, God is just an arms length away.

He sees you, and he’s waiting.

May the Lord’s guidance be with you all,
